OUR MISSION
Philosophy is a strong thing and living is a challenge, but it is a good thing. The philosophy of YAKA 18 is based on a fair and enthusiastic belief that everything living is precious. We have established an online market for artists to sell their Sri Lankan folklore and tradition-centred products. The island’s essence and its entire history is captured. YAKA18 is about making a change. We are about protecting and sustaining the environment and its animals. We want to bring back a sustainable way of life that was used by individuals before the modern era by selecting products which derive from tradition and folklore. Pollution and global warming are a great concern today and we hope to reduce their impact as much as possible. By finding and linking creative minds from local communities and encouraging them to develop and build mutually beneficial ties with local communities and businesses to increase awareness and create a more durable way of life. We are hopeful that the future will become a better place by empowering rural people and small communities across Sri Lanka to produce products that are sustainable and contribute to the imaginative and creative aspects of Sri Lanka’s lively colours. By presenting them on our online marketplace everyone around the world can buy them and use them for their home or workplace as indoor or outdoor decorations. It also empowers the communities to produce more products that support the environment and their lives, but also encourages them to establish contacts with other companies in the community and help each other to create a more sustainable society.

ABOUT US
YAKA 18 is a traditional Sri Lankan handcrafted decoration platform for the online market, which can be used on or wherever you want. They may be used as interior or exterior decorations and the surrounding area may be colorful.
The word “Yaka,” as our name states, is a Sri Lankan term. The Yaka is also known to be known by other names like as Yakseya, යක්ෂයා /යකා or Devaya. In an earlier period, the Yaka was somewhat Sri Lankans ‘Boogeyman’ and has been celebrated as an iconic person and part of history since then; masks are sold as home decor, and the Yaka is also an important tourist attraction in Sri Lanka. It was originally used as an excuse for frightening children or even preventing certain taboo acts by adults.
Many hang Yaka masks in their homes or estates because evil spirits and curses are said to be wielded away. The Yaka is featured today in many of Sri Lanka’s cultural festivities. We want to be ethical, compassionate, and sustainable when it comes to YAKA 18, and trusting our culture and heritage. Our new line of products based on traditional handicraft and fashion in Sri Lanka is proud to be introduced. We want to have good but sustainable, colorful and traditional products.
